Coaching Biography

Fred Layman’s passion for sports and coaching runs deep, rooted in a strong family legacy. As the son of an NCAA Division I football coach, he was immersed in the world of sports from an early age, shaping his lifelong dedication to coaching and athletic development.

With a distinguished professional tennis coaching career spanning over 30 years, Fred has worked with some of the nation’s top junior athletes through the USTA’s competitive training centers. His expertise led him to coach the U.S. Junior Team at the U.S. Open for many years, while also playing a pivotal role in developing grassroots tennis initiatives within his community.

An accomplished athlete himself, Fred excelled in tennis, golf, wrestling, basketball, and baseball at Columbine High School, earning a tennis scholarship to Bethany College. His commitment to coaching excellence is further demonstrated through his long-standing certification as a USPTA Member.

Fred’s extensive knowledge extends far beyond tennis. He has coached camps and clinics across a variety of sports, including soccer, baseball, pickleball, golf, and swimming. He is deeply passionate about developing young athletes from the ground up, with a focus on teaching proper mechanics and foundational skills to set them up for lifelong success.

He firmly believes that sports have the power to change lives and instill a love of healthy competition. Through his company, Sports4Life, Fred is committed to reaching as many individuals as possible—both adults and children—by introducing them to the joy and benefits of sports such as pickleball, tennis, baseball, golf, soccer, and flag football.
